How important is it to hire a licensed and reputable swimming pool contractor to either install a swimming pool or do renovations? Just ask the people who were recently scammed by a Volusia County contractor who took their money and did little to no work.
While the subject was arrested on one count of organized scheme to defraud, he “was sentenced to 20 years of supervised probation and was ordered to pay restitution to his former customers,” according to Click Orlando.
He was also “ordered to pay nearly $139,000 in restitution, which is to be paid in $500 monthly installments that will be divided among his seven Volusia County victims.” One victim said, “My end of that will be about $71 [per month]. So I’ll be about 94 years old when [it’s fully paid].” The state had revoked his pool contractor license in 2020.
When it comes to hiring a pool contractor, it is buyer beware. Unfortunately, there are some unscrupulous people in the community who are taking advantage of unknowing homeowners.
