Orlando Swimming Pool Design & Installation, Chlorine or Salt Water?

Jul 25, 2016

There is nothing like cooling down on a 95 degree days in your very own backyard swimming pool. The in-ground pool of your dreams is easier than you think with Dreamscapes Pools and Spas.

A very popular question we receive from our clients is, Should we get a chlorine pool system or salt water?

Saltwater pools are becoming increasingly popular because of their eco-friendliness and easy upkeep. Chlorine treatments keep traditional pools sparkling clean. Saltwater pool system still has natural chlorine, created from a salt water generator or within a salt water chlorinator from chemical electrolysis. The chlorine level in a salt water pool is considerably less than in a chlorinated pool.

Is a Salt Water Pool more expensive?

contactBGSalt water pools may have a higher initial cost because it is necessary to purchase a salt water generator. Not only does this prolong the life of the pool, it prevents algae from building up, because of the steady stream of chlorine. On average, a homeowner spends less than $100 a year for chemicals for a saltwater pool. While, the traditional chlorine pool can easily spend $300 just for a season.  Keep in mind the salt water generator will run for roughly 6 to 12 hours a day, so it may make your electric bill increase.

Are Salt Water Pools Difficult to Maintain?

One of the big advantages of a salt water pool is they are extremely easy to maintain. Besides the skimming leaves and debris every now and then, annual cleaning is all that is required, inspecting the generator, scrubbing the surface and changing the filter.

Will the Salt water irritate my eyes or taste funny?

Salt water pools only have a tenth of the salt found in the ocean, so it’s nothing like swimming at the beach. Many people don’t even realize they are swimming in a salt water pool. It may have a slightly salty taste if you lick your lips, but it is much easier on the hair, skin and swimwear, than traditional chlorinated pools.

Whether you choose the traditional chlorine pool or saltwater, you can trust the award winning design team at Dreamscapes Pools and Spas for an affordable, quality pool you and your family can enjoy for decades to come.
